Lines are more often used for outlining the contours of objects and putting an emphasis on edges. If placed and designed reasonably, line icons can be the ideal decoration of any minimalistic or clear web page design.

Lines and their features in line icons design.

What’s in fact a line? The shortest definition is the following: line is a form that contain both width and length but eliminating depth. The line is not only straight but more often curved. Staying static shapes, Line icons can create a sort of illusion of the dynamic objects. The mood depends on the lines direction. Horizontal lines in Line icons embody calmness, harmony and also stability while the vertical ones strive for the light movement. Energy and stronger dynamic feeling pertain to the diagonal lines. If you want to create refine and ultra-modern line icons designs you should use mix of straight lines and curves.

Line Icons Art

Without doubt the 1st kind of line art that familiar to a great amount of artists is curve stitching. Such kind of line art was developed with a help of threads of different colours and needle. Originally the canvas was a cardboard. This movement is also well known as “String Art”. It’s founder was a Mary Boole. He created it as the accessory material for children to help them study geometry of angles and spaces. Spirelli is a type of string art that’s been usually applied to scrap-booking and making cards. Before the photography appeared line art lived also in the form of illustrations for print sources and included only black and white colors. Several shades of gray were also acceptable.Line art includes geometry and art and in such a way becomes appealing to both technical and creative sides of human nature, If you desire to become a Line web icons designer remember that this process may develop imagination and creativity and also calculation skills.Line art is different from photography or multi-color painting by its ability to be printed to the halftone pic without extra conversion. This kind of art is named line drawing and line copy too.

Simple web icons are created not to make the design beautiful but rather minimal and contemporary. Wonderful and light Simple icons are aimed to increase web site user interaction.

Minimalism in webdesign

Minimalistic design implies simplicity and light-weight elements such as Simple icons. It reduces complex wordings, figures, textures and patterns. Less even means more in some areas and to some degree. Internet site design is exactly that area.

Minimalistic design is rather an unexpected trend today. So far as you know high present day technologies have one big disadvantage – usually they resulted in the loss of simplicity. Blending minimalistic web design with CSS3 and HTML5 is becoming more popular and makes you believe that combining simple elegance and usability is the formula for your webpage success. Web-site with simple design often contain brave and off-color effects and actively use CSS and Ajax.

The most significant features of the present day simple internet site design:

grid based design;

simple icons;

light shading and reserved color transition;

light texture of patterns and backgrounds (often transparent like);

more empty or white space;

simple shapes and figures, clear lines;

less amount of various bright colors;

clear and readable typography;

Simple icons are among the principal features of minimalistic design. Don’t forget that simple icons as well as other design elements should be used moderately. Reduce the amount of simple icons. Use them only where it is absolutely necessary. Optional simple web icons are to be refrained from repetition or eluded.

Simple web icons design contains limited amount of color, reserved shades, clear elements, soft lighting. Simple web icons are developed out of elegant and simple elements which really don’t distract web page visitors from the main navigation and website idea.

Rules for simple icons design:

minimal usage of duplication

less amount of graphical elements

maximum intuitive clarity

clear typography in simple web icons

less icons

Minimalistic design with simple web icons

Don’t forget about lightweight background textures and patterns. They are also essential for the design and content perception as well as simple icons. The background pattern or images shouldn’t catch all the attention of your visitors. The eyes should focus on the site content or some main blocks. So the background needs to be of a light simple shade making it secondary compared with the foreground items like simple web icons.

One more well known feature of the lightweight and clear design is for sure clear typography. Choose simple icons names according to their function and bear in mind such names should be precise, and also meaningful. Also use readable and enough large font for headings on simple web icons.

Also for building a great clean simple icons design you may use enough white or empty space. Extra spaces keep elements separate and for that reason much more readable and easier to work with. Some extra space between simple web icons will do your design no harm at all.

In general the minimalistic trend isn’t entirely minimal. Inspite of its large amount of white space there are still some simple icons, light textures, neat styles and bold fonts. Minimal is just not exactly the same as simple. From the very begining minimal meant plain typographic excluding images and styling. Today there is a great amount of various sites over the Internet. Thats why modern design demands something more than black text on white background. Add more zest to your website layout with a help of some unusual coloring, catchy simple icons, half-transparent and lightweight textures and patterns. Also reduce design elements to the most essential items.

Simple is often used as a synonym of smart. While creating the modern website design you should keep in mind the eternal truth stating that genius is based on simplicity. Simple web icons is the best solution if you would like your internet site look wonderful and professional.

Realistic icons are necessary elements of the modern web design. It’s also possible to meet them in software programs, applications and add-ons, etc.

As far as you know website pages require special ways of representation and promotion. The most effective way is of course including realistic icons into the web page design. They help users to get a quick initial impression of what business area and what products he/she is going to have to do with. The icons should be placed on website homepage to be noticeable at once.

Certainly if you would like have icons that fulfil all your requirements you have to hire the experienced designer who can make some unique set of icons. But such custom orders of realistic icons are very expensive and take significant amount of time. After all the results of custom order usually are not clear. Even professional website designers fall short of the mark known as non-uniqueness. Often some of web-site designers simply take icons that were created earlier and vary colors and shades, use some other effects and then sell realistic icons as unique items. Though in fact they are not.

Another way of getting awesome web icons is finding authoritative icons resources. You can simply find a great amount of numerous Realistic web icons stocks and providers on the web. The excellent benefit of this method of getting web icons is that you see what you buy. The cost may be less than in case with custom orders. In addition you save your valuable time. So as far as you see now – stocks are much more preferable for finding well designed and affordable realistic icons .

Tricks for utilizing realistic icons

Designing realistic icons you have to build the basic pictograms first. It should look simple and motivated enough to make one icon significantly differ from another. It should look vivid enough if being displayed at worse resolution, resized, discolored or blurred. The icon should be recognizable at first sight. How to check your icons? If it’s possible to discern the icon within just one second – it’s well done.

After you find the formula of the basic silhouette and it is stable you possibly can make realistic icons more eye-catching by adding decorative elements. Icons really should not be overloaded with the details and color tints. Design should look integral and reserved. You may make the edges anti-aliased. So remember the simple rule – the decoration should not detract from the icons essence and functions.

Vector format in which the icons are stored makes them pretty simple to edit. You’re free to resize, rotate, adjust the edges and edit outlines, change the color scheme and add more details etc. And do not be worried – there’s no need to have extra knowlages in web design.

If you wish to design the interface layout of the new software or IT services – Realistic web icons may be very helpful in this task. Producing premium quality, eye-catching and good-looking realistic icons is not an easy task. Generally you need to modify the high-resolution pictures in order to get truly realistic images.

Retro continuously increases its right place in the present day internet site design industry. Certainly the best representatives of traditional beauty and noble taste are Vintage icons. Present day web page style acquires some vintage twist. Retro and Vintage are becoming the well-known trends in the contemporary digital art. Vintage icons, textures, patterns as well as clip-art bring mystery to your website design. They make you plunge into the atmosphere of the old happy times, when everything appeared to be so simple, innocent and noble. People think the good times are over associating them with their period of childhood or sweet youth. Hence vintage style revives for this reason psychological peculiarity of the human nature.

What is retro and how it is realized in the modern day web page design industry

Speaking about retro in simple terms we’d outline an aged or culturally outdated trend that has become some conscious norm in the modern art. Having emerged in the post-modern art, it penetrates into the present day webpage design in the form of vintage icons, old-styled backgrounds, aged photography etc.

Usually the new retro style contains the Web 2.0 look with a vintage twist. It requires to combine the modern clean blocks and the outdated ones. Also there is a necessity to mix aged design elements like Vintage icons, styles and color palettes.

Vintage web icons is among the most noticeable and easy-to-apply graphical elements you may use in your website to make it look archaic. Vintage web icons suppose authentic use of vintage typography, less-saturated colors and retro textures to help creating the vintage air emanating from the webpage. Your site visitors will definitely like antique air of your new design.

Retro came from the70s and 80s. Retro advertising art from the 1950s is bold and eye-catching. Computer technologies help to put a new face on this type of art using its characters in web site design and printing. These faces outlined in the vintage web icons are more often retro cars, pin-up girls, soldiers and politicians of the former times.For sure among the most frequently used retro cars are Fiat 500, the 1970 Dodge Challenger, the 1969 Chevrolet Samara, the 1964 Ford Mustang etc. Vintage icons may include hints to retro cars concepts for attracting more attention to your web page layout. They are perfect for the websites concerning auto sales, transporting services, tour sites etc.Also you can face a such common character as a pin-up model that is used in vintage icons design as well as other site graphics styling. Often it presents images of how the really sexy and beautiful woman should look like. Pin-up images are great for vintage web icons or clip-art designed for the model agencies, websites regarding health and beauty areas.

Military and security guard website pages may effectively use soldiers and officers with an outdated appearance to win the site visitors favour and trust.

Usage of specific characters is not limited to the above-mentioned ones. You may apply creativity and use them unconventionally. Thus you will surprise your visitors. So far as you know it is a great way to turn your potentional customers minds to your website.

Patterns and Typography for vintage icons and other graphics

Recommended Vintage patterns in vintage icons design:

patterns containing vintage papers;

with vintage frames;

with outmoded florals;

paper and bagging, gold-cloth as the texture fabric;

wooden or bronze textures for vintage icons.

Authentic fonts to be used for developing vintage icons titles, content headings and texts are Matchbook, Bazar Medium, Embossed, Hill House,-Fontleroy Brown, Fusty Saddle, Just Old Fashion, Goudy Bookletter 1911, Rocket Script, Parisian, Star Avenue etc. Feel absolutely free to find and purchase on the web the best suitable fonts that will ideal match your design.

Try to pick up a such vintage-inspired layout that looks modern and appropriate, but no old-fashioned. If you create the cozy and noble, antique feel with a help of Vintage web icons, images and styled blocks for the site layout, your visitors will come to your site with a thankful smile over and over again.

But try not to make your vintage design look too stuffy, you should be aware that professional design is formal-looking and the major emphasis should be made on the products, services or content material your web page presents.

2D web icons are really notable for their flexibility. This is achieved by the peculiarity of rendering them at various resolutions ideal for various output devices.

2D Icons may embody the next items:

raster pictures (digital graphics);

styled text as a typeset for 2D Icons;

vector models (geometric graphics).

These items can be managed by 2D transformations such as rotation, scaling or angular position etc. Meshing basic models you may get more complex ones.

Due to the layers technique 2D web icons can create the illusion of all 3D characteristics such as shadow, reflection or highlighting. The layers should maintain the certain hierarchy and order carefully. This makes editing 2D icons and related objects simpler.

2.5D Icons versus 3D and 2D Icons

The layered 2Dicons are also known as 2.5D models. This technology allows web designers to work with any layer with no need of touching the others. This kind of 2D object creation is preferred by the most of the famous graphics editors.

2.5D is a synonym to pseudo 3D and is interpreted as “two-and-a-half-dimensional” graphics. Models which were created with a help of with 2.5D technology appear to be tridimensional but in fact they are not.

This technology used for designing 2D web icons is frequently attained by the special lighting effect. 3D illusion is achieved as a result of virtual light source to the left or to the right side and above the users monitor.

More often Line icons are the objects with the outlined contours. They’re known as contour drawings. Also you can find another kind of icons: the items are without some strict outlines. They’re referred to as gesture drawings. Such drawings are being widely used by skilled artists who are able to repeat the outlines of the object right after seeing it.

Another technique is adding various halftones and shades to the object by using short lines and crosshatching. Do not afraid to vary their frequency as well as pencil pressure. Such variety creates more three-dimensional look to the object. This trick is widely used in web design as well. So this method is really helping in designing of amazing Line web icons, logos and buttons.The lines with the dots not combining the singular elements are classified as open lines. It may look really striking when being applied to line icons design. The lines can be gesture-like, parallel, contour etc. as well. The curves that are important for creating complex line shapes are called Bezier curves in computer graphics. These curves are handy small features essential for producing the vector shapes like line icons, different buttons etc.Today computer technologies reached such a level when it becomes possible to reproduce exactly the same designs or just build new shapes that based on some older ones. The great thing – it can be done without extra efforts and time. Another advantage is that it is possible to go back to the previous adjustments with a help of the history panel. As a result there’s no need to make Line web icons from scratch if you have made some errors.

Being two-dimensional, they are well known for their flexibility and comparative simplicity. 2.5D Icons is the type of 2D Icons that is closer to pseudo 3D representation.Such models depict both front and side views.

2D web icons and objects don’t just represent the real world items but they are independent objects with their own semantic value. 2D graphics helps to get more direct control of the image than 3D technology. This may be one of the reasons why they are so much loved and desired in the world of contemporary website design and digital art.
